II Corinthians 3:18

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. II Corinthians 3:18

Voting...

Yes... it was voting this week here...

i have been on this journey,
from the beginning lately...
I started up in Genesis, but I have wound up in Samuel...

So...
I am reminded of the people who wanted a vote,
who wanted a say...
And this is what God tells them:
1 Samuel 8:7b, "they have rejected me as their king"

They wanted to just be like everyone else.
They wanted a king just like every other nation around them.
They voted in king Saul instead of Samuel, the judge representing their King, the LORD.

Wow... who wants to be chosen?
Who wants to be loved?
Who wants to be cared for and defended by God almighty?

Well...  not the Israelite people... not at this point...

They wanted to be just like everyone else.

And I wonder.

How often do I want to, "be like everyone else"?
Go with the crowd,
Be swayed?

And what do I give up when I do that?
I give up my King!?
I put something in His place?

So who will you vote into office in your life today?
Who will be your king?
What will you be slave too?

Or will you let the King of Kings free you?
free you from sin,
from slavery and oppression to the things that... at the time...
seem "more fun" or just to make you, "like everyone else"

And God goes on to tell them what it will cost them in that verse...
How being "like everyone else" will really cost them everything and put them in bondage to an earthly king.

And the people went their own way.

The story of time eternal.

The choice, to be free and worship the one true God
or to move on to our own selfish ambitions...
placing a king in your life to be just like everyone else.

To be free you must become a slave, a slave to Christ...
this is the one thing that will make a difference;
to serve a King who has my own interest in mind and knows what I need better than I can even comprehend.

Romans 6:
16 Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. 18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

*I write my blog in a state of self reflection. The word "you" is intended to be my asking myself these questions.
