Maybe you didn’t know it, but our family is really already a
family of 5. My third child is named
Sebastian. He lives in Columbia and is
adopted in a way. Several years ago I
adopted him through Compassion International.
Over the years our relationship has grown. We write to each other. I enjoy hearing of how he is learning and
growing. He is much like a son to me.
Last month I got a letter from him. He is excited that he is going to have a
little “sister” soon.
One thing that struck me was that in his letter he told me
how much my letters mean to him. He told
me how my letters always make him feel like he is important.
And the truth is… he is
important. And YOU are important. You see… God has a plan for you. Weather you choose to run headlong toward
that plan and seek His open arms or run away- the plan is still there. Every child big or small… yearns to be told of this (we are born
needing to know this- hear this and have it seep into our very being.) In my training as a teacher we learned, “each
child needs one unabandoned and unashamed cheerleader. Someone who will love them unconditionally
and tell them they can do it.”
So many people walk around in a daze… unknowing, and
unhearing of this gallant phrase. “There is a plan for you. A
purpose. You can do it. Don’t stop, don’t tire don’t grow weary or
weak my child. Hang in there, hang
on. You
are special.”
And there is it, Sebastian's letter to me... Amidst the school maps and
supplies. To remind me... there are children all over the world who
need someone in their life. To encourage and build up.... to keep them
from building up walls that are too deep for anyone to penetrate.
Anyway… These are the
thoughts I had from my son Sebastion and his letter to me. Thoughts of how every child, adult and
hurting person in this world needs to hear this message. How everyone in this world needs a hope, a
true hope to hang their hat on- something and someone that won’t change tomorrow like the wind.
For further reflection:
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the
LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope
and a future.
Romans 8:37
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through
him who loved us.
I pray this encourages you to question and seek and read
further to find the context these words are written in.
