II Corinthians 3:18

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. II Corinthians 3:18

Fresh, frozen or pickled?

Well…
Posting has been sparse, what can I say?

We just got internet at our place in the village…  just in time for me to leave the village to prepare to have the baby.  Ah well- I was swamped last week with Dr’s visits and tests on the baby.  So here I am finally with a post I have been meaning to get out for weeks.

Life is quite different here.  I am only going to talk about one small thing.

Food.

We do have 3 stores here.  This is great!  It is great because in a pinch you can get something… maybe… if they carry it.

So- for the most part we have to ship in what we need or order it to be shipped to us.  Next year- we are hoping to be able to go moose hunting in order to cut our costs significantly.  We can’t do that this year because it takes a year to establish your residency so you can apply for a subsistence living permit.

Anyway-

This is a frequent picture around our house.

Yep- that’s right.  We eat much of our food right out of a can.  Fresh is just way to costly here.

But- we have had some creative ways of getting more fresh stuff here.  My daughter has been involved in a science experiment through our correspondence school.  She is growing lettuce and basil in our closet… no kidding!  It is grown hydroponically.  It actually tastes really good, and grows rather quickly.  I am excited to see what other vegetables we can grow in there.

And then… there was this amazing day.  When some APPLES arrived in the MAIL from a friend down states!  Oh man, it was heavenly.  There were enough apples to make an apple pie and still have a couple each to eat.

So- all in all...

It is good to be thankful for the small pleasures in life.  These crazy ways fresh produce has shown up on our table and in our tummies.
