The footies were given to me by my first set of room mates. They were a couple from the village of Steilwik. They had a baby with nearly the same condition as Hannah. We had many of the same struggles. They gave me the footies after I had gotten them some smoked salmon. I was grateful to have them as room mates. They reminded me of my village home.
The onesie was from a friend. I met Kim in Seattle. Kim and her daughter Gabby were wonderfully amazing to me. They visited, encouraged and helped me find services at the hospital that I didn't even know about. The amazing thing is that two different people, from totally different realms of my life introduced me to Kim. She was such a blessing to me.
And the hat. It was something I got for free. The week that Hannah had her surgery, the hospital was raising awareness for shaken baby syndrome. I got the hat for free from the case in the family center. Purple was the chosen color to raise awareness in this instance. I grabbed the hat for a totally different reason though. Babies are cold after they come out of surgery. And the nurses were just covering Hannah's head with a blanket. So, I grabbed the hat to keep her warm.
I don't think I will get rid of any of these things. I'm going to keep them in a special place. Some place to remind me of the wonderful people God brought into my life on this journey.
It may be an end of an era. One I don't wish to repeat. But- I never want to forget the things I learned and found along the way during that time either.
