Six hands make ready work of the dough...
kneeding, punching and adding in more flour...
The dough had already risen once and will rise once more after the bread has been braided.
The sweet sound of prayers fill the air as we kneed, fold and kneed again.
Prayers for the family soak into the bread as we continue to kneed.
Praying is a selfless act,
Benefiting the one being prayed for,
But unknowingly, it benefits the person praying.
"Lord, help daddy have a good day with his students."
My heart softens...
The prayer kneeds into the bread.
I think so often of the prayers in my life...
I, I am in need... I am in need of rescuing...
We all are really.
Life is full of tragedy.
When you know, you are broken... only then can you seek healing.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26
23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
The bread that will heal all brokenness was broken for us.
We kneed the prayers into the bread...
and I am changed...
remembering,
I am in need of rescuing,
Remembering, the price has been paid
Thankful for the gift,
broken for me.
Hearing,
"Lord, help daddy have a good day with his students."
I whisper,
"Lord, help daddy be a good father and a man who is upright in your eyes."
Prayer...
It reminds us,
we are in need of rescue,
and makes the heart thankful...
that we have a rescuer,
Pslam 18:2
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
(This is taken from my experience of making Challa bread with my children. We are studying the feasts of the year. Challa bread is a traditional Jewish bread used to celebrate the Sabbath. Part of the process of making the bread is to pray for the family while you are kneeding it. This became a very memorable experience for the whole family.)
