The little hands cupped the precious dollar bills...
In the middle of math and reading-
piggy banks had been raided...

What did we learn today?
Math...  English... and...  life...


While we sit studying,
Another child cries frantically in the night
While we work place values and phonics
Another child is to weak to cry..


So- what will we do?


We learned about life today,
I couldn't help but cry.   Today hundreds of thousands of Africans are on the verge of starvation.  There in front of me, the crumpled dollars will be four hundred and forty meals.  While we gather around the table tonight, the same table we studied at, the same table the piggy banks were raided upon...  we will eat until we are full.  And 440 people will get a staple and water... with these crumpled dollars.


So what will we do?
Go without cable for a month?
Sell some needless things at a garage sale?
Make crafts and bake goods to sell?


We liked all of these ideas,


But we sensed the urgency of the matter.
Uncomplicated, we will give now...
and give later.


Simple, to children...
unbound by political issues, greed or bias.  


Simple, to children...
see a need, lend a hand- let no one go unnoticed...

Matthew 18:1-5

1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
 2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.

So today, I let it be simple to me too.  

See a need, lend a hand- let no one go unnoticed.

The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
